Greater London Authority 'Streetworks & Infrastructure Explainers'

Bringing complex technical concepts to life with intricate paper craft scenes.

To help explain complex concepts to a wide array of industry stakeholders across multiple sectors, Hattie designed a suite of accessible, easy-to-understand assets using paper.

For services including streets, planning, and development, the aim of the collection of illustrations is to communicate concepts relating to coordinating utilities to deliver streetworks collaboratively. They will be used mainly for internal presentations and reports, while some will be used publicly on the fencing where the works are taking place.

The illustrations range from showing the different types of pipes and cables that are used for street works, to larger scenes showing how traffic would be diverted when a street is interrupted by roadworks.

While Hattie used mainly paper to craft the illustrations, some were created digitally using the same style so they still felt in keeping with the set.

She worked closely with a small team in her studio to design, create and shoot the individual components and scenes.

"I’ve had the pleasure of working with The Greater London Authority for the past few months on a set of illustrations and diagrams for internal use, online and street hoardings. I really loved working on these (brought out my former geography A-Level nerd brain) ~ thanks to the brilliant team at GLA who explained everything to me so patiently, Ross at Jelly, and my papercraft team who photographed the larger scenes in my studio." - Hattie
