Commissioned by MTV to create an artist ident encompassing the theme of 'lazy', Laura crafted a unexpectedly energetic scene within the Barcelona metro. Laura's hero character is a young commuter, slumped against one of the supporting poles, until their desire for a more comfortable seat drives them forward in dynamic and exuberant style.
Character Design
Laura's hero of the ident is a young man exhausted from his first real job in the big city, suddenly compelled by the need to locate the only empty seat, the hero is animated humorously with his centre of gravity in his butt. Designed in Laura's signature 3D style, the characters have soft rounded edges and a light, buoyant energy as they make their way home.
Laura designed the background characters in the scene to be realistic and individual without drawing too much attention. She took references from observing real life people and how they amuse themselves while commuting.
The stand out star of the animation, the characterful pigeon, demands a seat designed to be bold, larger than life and slightly imposing, taking up space both within the carriage and the city itself as they establish themselves as commuters in their own right.
Environment
Designed to replicate a miniature model of a metro carriage, with inspiration from vintage train designs and an almost toy-like look to the rounded shapes and soft 3D sheen.
