IKEA Ways to Shop

IKEA UK is coming to a neighbourhood near you in classic Matte Cooper style as he designed three humorous mixed media spots to showcase the brand's click and collect service with Mother London. Calling upon his love of old Japanese monster movies, Matte crafted the IKEA store to be a ‘friendly Godzilla’ striding down the street to bring its flat pack furniture and Swedish treats conveniently closer to you.

Matte’s model was turned into a warm and funny character puppet, combining a scale model with the tactile ‘muppet-like’ legs and googly eyes.

To create all three films our team took to the streets to shoot the live action footage in real, busy locations which brought a range of characterful actors and authentic extras portraying the customers discovering the new IKEA up close.

A talented team of puppeteers brought Matte’s vision to life on the day with VFX used later to convincingly depict the puppet as towering over the streets of London. Matte’s final step in this brilliant project was to animate the IKEA’s eye movements to fully bring the character to life and add the final touch of personality to the project.
