Fluid painterly animation to celebrate the brand's 100th anniversary

In partnership with Saatchi & Saatchi Los Angeles, Savants crafted a painterly layered animation for ASICS's 'Sole of Kobe' campaign. Celebrating the heritage and looking to the future of ASICS to mark its 100th anniversary, the brief was to illustrate a story in the early life of Onitsuka, showing how intuition made his first basketball shoe a success.

The challenge for Savants was to create a striking visual style that would evoke classic Japanese-style watercolour paintings and illustrations, bringing the film to life through mixing frame-by-frame, 2D and 3D animation techniques.
